Be careful what you wish for!!!

Hello!

Lava fields everywhere!

More lava!

I am writing tonight from beautiful downtown Idaho Falls, and boy, has the weather changed!!  We got here about 2 pm and decided to head out for either a late lunch or an early dinner about 3.  When we entered the restaurant (Jaker’s) it must have been 85+ degrees.  When we got back to the car after a wonderful dinner, it was … 63 degrees!  Incredible! It is blowing like a son of a gun outside, and there are plenty of small branches off of trees.  It feels absolutely wonderful, but in shorts and t-shirt, it’s COLD!  (We heard that it is snowing north of here, in Montana!)  Now back in the room, and in my light-weight jacket.  I’m thinking that we may be the first folks in line tomorrow morning at Costco – and hoping that they will have something warm to wear! We both have blue jeans and our light jackets … I’m thinking some socks other than footies might be in order, as well as a nice and warm sweatshirt!

So!  Up this morning about 5:30 am and down about 6 am to do laundry.  That only took about half an hour, but then came the drying…and more drying…the Costco socks that R likes to wear are VERY heavy … Finally, about 8:15 am things were finally dry.  We folded everything and it all fit back into the suitcase, so upstairs to repack everything.  Finally off about 9:30 am with everything packed neatly into the car.  On to Idaho Falls!

Thankfully most of our route was off of the freeway – off the freeway at Mountain Home and on to US highways 20/26/6 across Idaho heading east.  We drove through Craters of the Moon park, and it was very reminiscent of the Big Island of Hawaii. Lots of jet-black lava everywhere we looked.  Got to Idaho Falls about 2 pm and our room is amazing!

Note the TV?

It’s a one-bedroom suite on the 4th(top) floor overlooking the river and the river walk.  There is a very comfortable living room with half-bath (which I have appropriated!) and a great bedroom and even bigger second bathroom!  We’ve got both a jacuzzi tub (for me) (oh!  And R wants me to make sure to point out the television over the tub!!) and a shower compartment (for R)!  As I told Robert, if we do nothing else tomorrow but sit on our balcony (which stretches the entire width of our rooms!) that would be fine with me!  After the tub, of course!

Dinner at Jaker’s was great.  Everyone masked, and the tables far apart with additional plexiglass really isolating tables.  I ordered their house salad with blue cheese dressing, which was great.  R got their Cesar salad with six very large anchovies on top … ugh!  We both ordered their 8 oz. filet, which came perfectly cooked and rare.  With it, we got Idaho baked potatoes (of course!) as well as an order of mushrooms.  Yum!

Dessert menu looked really good, but honestly?  Nowhere to put it!  So … back out to the car, and did a quickie tour of downtown; up one side of the Riverwalk, and back on the other.  Truly, the wind was blowing really hard.  R got out once to take photos of the falls and park, then back into the warmth … or as warm as it gets for the moment!

As I sit here and type, I am listening to the wonderful patter of the rain on the windows and balcony – it has been SO long since we’ve heard it!  Now back inside the hotel and safely ensconced in our suite!  R already “resting his eyes” and I’m going to finish up here and wake up Sleeping Beauty to do photos.  More tomorrow – just think warm thoughts for us!

Much love,

m
