Hello!
Woke up this morning to what appears to be a gale! Wind blowing the flags straight out – just amazing!
At 8 a.m. when we were having breakfast, the Weather Channel reported that in Idaho Falls it was 37 degrees but felt like 22 with the wind. UGH! Also, snow in the Rocky Mountains and down the front range (Denver included, I think). I know I have talked about how hot it can be in Arizona, and being happy to get out of the oven – but seriously, straight into the freezer?

As we were definitely not prepared for this, we decided to spend the morning doing errand-type things. (My plan for today in Idaho Falls was to take it easy and do some serious walking along the Riverwalk, which follows the river in both directions, and do some reading on our lovely balcony. Well … none of that’s going to happen today, I can guarantee that!)

First errand was $$; so nice that Wells Fargo covers so many western states! From the bank, it was 10 am and Costcowas open. YEAH! Freezing our little bottoms off, that’s for sure, just getting into the store! As a result, I now have my brand-new coat – the color is called Zinfandel, and it’s a nice ¾ length with a hood – and is very, very warm! Robert declined the offer of a coat, as he says it’s not “that” cold, so for him we got a beautiful navy blue hoodie with a large “pouch” in front to keep his hands warm. I am actually wearing it now, as we watch the U.S. Open, and it comes down to cover my shorts! Nice and warm, actually! After Costco we checked out Albertson’s for sparkling water, and they had nothing at all! Next found a “Fred Meyer” store, which did have Arrowhead Sparkling water (our drink of choice), so all set for at least a couple of days. So, with warmer clothes (oh yes! I got a wonderful package of incredibly soft “boot socks” as well!! Very cute … and warm!), we’re just about all set! Figuring that we’ll head out for late lunch/early dinner in a bit, and hoping (with help of socks, coat and sweatshirt) that we can actually walk the 12-minute walk to the Storm Eagle Brewing Company. So … a lovely, relaxing day; tomorrow we’re off to Thayne, WY via Jackson, WY. Just hoping we don’t encounter any SNOW!
More later!

Back from a lovely dinner! We walked down the Riverwalk to Storm Eagle Brewery & Grill. There were actually a few big trees down, I’m sure because of last night’s wind, but at least with my warm new jacket, it wasn’t too bad being outside! Had we done the walk last night, I’m sure it would have been much more pleasant in the park. Nice big space for the brewery, and everybody appropriately masked and distanced. R ordered their fresh trout* with Idaho French fries and a salad, and I got their amazing prime rib sandwich with fries and a salad. It also came with a great spicy aioli sauce that I used for both the fries and the sandwich! All washed down by a couple of glasses of Clear Canyon Chardonnay – from Idaho! It was excellent! We’re beginning to think that grapes can grow anywhere!

More new friends!
After that, back to the hotel and in for the night! In fact, the front desk just called to see, as we are leaving tomorrow, if all was okay with everything here – Okay!? I told her we don’t think we’ll ever want to leave! But for now, on to Thayne, WY via Jackson WY and two nights in our own little log cabin!
So – until tomorrow!

* For several years, I have been complaining that I couldn’t find trout on the menus of the restaurants in Idaho. And, if you can’t get trout in Idaho, where canyou? Well, this trip has shattered the myth; trout has been abundantly available and I am getting my fill. - Robert
